Hello Everyone!
Today it is time for the second instalment in my friend Charlie and I’s collaboration series! If you didn’t catch the first post in the ToddDragon Collaboration series where we reacted to each others bookish opinions, then you can read that here, which I highly suggest you do since it was a lot of fun and I explained more about the series.
Today’s collaboration is all about bookish photos! Some of you may know that I’m a photographer, so taking photos of books is really the perfect blend of my passions. I first fell into the bookish community through bookstagram and the beautiful pictures of my favourite books I saw on there, so I’ll always have a soft spot for taking bookish photos. It was this precise love of bookish photos that lead me to suggest doing a bookish photo challenge for one of our collaborations and both Charlie and I loved the idea! We gave each other 12 prompts to interpret however we wanted and then had to take a photo for each one in whatever way we could think of. The prompts ranged from pretty normal bookstagram props to some really random things.
Now I think I’ve rambled enough and I reckon we all get the point of the challenge, so let’s just get into showing you the photos I took for the prompts Charlie gave me!
1. Your favourite pair of socks
2. Spring
3. The colour blue
4. A fun shaped rock/ pebble/ piece of gravel
5. Stripes
6. Glass
7. A note
8. Water (but be careful!)
9. Your favourite animal
10. A triangle
11. Your favourite song lyric
12. A tribute to your favourite book character
So now you’ve seen the photos I took inspired the prompts that Charlie gave me. I hope you like them because I really love them all and had a lot of fun taking them! Before we talk about them any more though make sure you go and check out Charlie’s blog: https://halfhidecharlie6.wixsite.com/charlietodd to see his photos he took for the prompts I gave him.
Now let’s talk about the prompts… I thoroughly enjoyed taking all of these photos and some of the prompts were harder to fulfil than others. I was thrilled when I read prompt no.12 because it gave me a valid excuse to talk about my dear one and only William Herondale, whom I love so dearly! My favourite photo I ended up taking was definitely ‘Water’ from prompt no.8 because it was really challenging to think of a way to take the photo safely without getting water on my beloved books. The solution I came up with was filling a glass container with water and having one of my fake flowers floating in it, which I think looks pretty magical to me!
A Triangle and My favourite song lyrics were a little tricky as well because I didn’t really have anything physical to represent them, so I ended up using Photoshop to add the elements I wanted. Text has always been a weakness of mine when editing photos because I just don’t like Photoshop texts, but I think I did a good job all things considered.
The final thing I feel like I really should address is prompt no.2 ‘spring’. I am assuming that Charlie intended me to interpret this as the season of spring, but I prefer to take my bookish photo inside and I’d already used some plants for other photos and I didn’t want to double up, so I interpreted it another way by using an actual spring from a pen! I’m sure this wasn’t the intended interpretation, but I thought it was funny and would be a nice solution for me not wanting to go outside.
On that note, this concludes the second ToddDragon Collaboration! I am thoroughly enjoying doing these collabs with Charlie and I especially enjoyed getting creative for this one! What did you think of my bookish photos? Have you checked out Charlies blog and what did you think of the prompts I have him? I know I gave him some weird ones! I’d love to know, so leave a comment down below or come and chat to me over on my Instagram: @theoriginalbookdragon
