Hello Everyone!
I’m a little late to the mid-year party, but better late than never right? I’ve seen a lot of people doing the ‘Mid-Year Freak Out Tag’, but since this year hasn’t been amazing for reading anyway because of my exams, I didn’t see much point in doing it. Instead, I thought it would be nice to review the reading goals I set for myself at the beginning of the year to see how far I’ve got and make plans to complete them by the end of the year.
In case you weren’t with me at the beginning of 2019, here are the goals I set myself for 2019:
- Read Everyday
- Read 52 books by the end of the year (goodreads goal)
- Re-read Harry Potter for my book vs movie comparison series
- Finish my Cassie Clare Re-read, so I can read her new books
- Finally read Sarah.J.Maas’s books
Those were the 5 main things I wanted to achieve this year in terms of my reading, so let’s talk about how I’ve gotten on…
Read Everyday
Up until a few weeks ago I was doing abysmally at this because I simply didn’t have the time or the energy to read whilst doing my exams. I know a lot of people say ‘oh you have to make time’, but I am autistic, which means everything I do takes a lot more energy than it does the average person, so I truly didn’t have the energy and I didn’t have the time because I needed every spare second the hibernate and re-coup. Exams are over forever now though, so I have picked right back up where I left off and I intend to read everyday from now on!
Read 52 Books
It’s only July, which means I still have time to complete this one, but as it stands now, I have read 14/52 books. Needless to say, this is quite severely behind schedule, but I am truly back on my reading game and loving it more than ever, so I am still confident that I can complete this goal! I have some readathons planed for the second half of the year (and I’ll be vlogging them for my YouTube: Samantha Drage), which I think will help a lot.
Re-read Harry Potter
If you’ve been around for the past month then you will know I am fully on top of this goal because I am currently in the middle of my re-read and my Book vs Movie series! I am currently reading Prisoner of Azkaban and intend to have it finished today, so I’m doing well on this one 😁
Re-read CC’s Books
Unfortunately I haven’t done as well with this goal. I was still in the middle of my re-read of The Mortal Instruments when 2019 started, but that soon grinded to a halt with the start of exams. At this point in the year I don’t think I’ll be able to re-read them and still complete my goal of reading 52 books, so I have decided to save this one for next year when I have more time.
Read Sarah.J.Maas’s Books
I said on my 2019 TBR that I wanted to read all of Sarah.J.Maas’s books this year because I own all of them and I have always been intrigued by the plot. I know they are quite a controversial series and I am aware of that going in, but I think I will enjoy them despite what people have said and I do really want to know what everyone is talking about. I haven’t yet started them, but I would like to at least start the series before the end of the year, even if I don’t finish it. If I can do that then I will count that as a win!
So those are the reading goals I set for myself when 2019 started and how I have been getting on! As you can see, I haven’t had an amazing start to my year in terms of reading, but I am confident that I can complete them by the end of the year bar the Cassie Clare re-read because there are just so many! I honestly don’t know how she does it; she is a writing machine! What reading goals did you set yourself for 2019? How are you doing so far? I’d love to know, so leave a comment down below or come and chat to me over on my Instagram (@theoriginalbookdragon)
Goodbye for now!
