Hello Everyone!
Today is Day 21 of the 30-day-book-challenge, which means we are going to take a trip down memory lane as I tell you about ‘the first novel I remember reading’. I thought for a long time about exactly what would count as a novel and what I would have read first, but I can’t remember what I age I read what at. I am therefore simply going to tell you a bit about several of the novels/series that I remember reading in primary school.
I think I would be correct in saying that the first novel I read for myself was the first book in the Pony Club Secret series. I read the whole series from start to finish pretty much from the time the first one came out. I certainly know that it was one of the first series I ever truly love besides Harry Potter and Percy Jackson that were read to me as bedtime stories. I know for certain that it was the first series that I followed and read as they came out by myself. They are about a girl who loves horse-riding, but when her horse dies she chooses take in another horse who was abused in her previous home and look after her. We follow Izzy and her horse throughout something like 16 books, taking part in competitions, dealing with drama and some nasty situations. The catch is that the horse she lost in the first book comes back as a sort of ‘magical guardian’ and helps her along her way. I really loved these books and I recommend them to anyone within the age of about 8-12.
The second series I want to talk about is the Allegra Biscotti trilogy. When I was about 9 I had a fascination with fashion and I wanted to be a fashion designer, so you can imagine my excitement when I found a trilogy all about a young girl who took her sewing as seriously as I did. Someone in the fashion industry found her way into her studio one day and asked her who designed these clothes and in a panic she made up the name Alleggra Biscotti. Throughout the trilogy she struggles to make it into the fashion industry especially since she is pretending to be someone else. I loved this trilogy and I would still read it today!
The final books I wanted to talk to you about today is The School for Good and Evil Trilogy by Soman Chainani. These are the first books that I know for certain would be called a ‘novel’ that i remember reading independently. They are about 2 girls who get taken away to two separate school (one for good and one for evil). They seem to have been put in the wrong schools though, so the first book involves them trying to find out why they seem to be at the wrong school and finding out a lot about themselves. The whole trilogy is fantastic and a highly underappreciated middlegrade series. If you haven’t read them and you enjoy middlegrade, then I highly recommend them!
Those are some of the first novels I remember reading as a child! Have you read any of the same novels I read as a child? What did you think of them? What is the first novel you remember reading? I’d love to know, so leave a comment down below or come and chat to me over on my Instagram (@theoriginalbookdragon).
Goodbye for now!
