Hello Everyone!
Today is Day 12 of the 30-day-book-challenge, which means today we are talking about a book that I loved, but hated at the same time. The answer to this prompt was a no-brainer for me and I think I actually might be alone in my opinion here. I chose Twilight for this prompt and the reason I say I may be alone in my opinion on it is because everyone I have talked to seems to either love it or hate it and there is no inbetween.
Let me give you a bit of background on my experience with Twilight: Twilight was one of the first grown-up fantasy series I read when I was 11 years old and had just started secondary school, so at this time I didn’t really have any expectations, had no experience in reading more adult books and didn’t really have anything to compare it to. I did really enjoy my time reading them, so at the time I thought that they were the best books ever. I never gave them a rating because I didn’t know that was a thing then, but I’m sure if I had then I would have given them 5/5.
Now that I am older I can whole-heartedly say that my opinion has changed, but let me explain why. Twilight will always have a special place in my heart because they were some of the first books I read in secondary school and they got me through a difficult time, but I will admit that they were not at all well-written and there are a lot of floors in them that bug me. They are of course not fabulously well-written and Bella is basically just a cardboard cut out she is so 2D, but I think everyone knows that. What has always bugged me though is not only the lack of plot in book 2 and 3, but Jacob and her Dad. Edward isn’t perfect, but at least he didn’t assault Bella. The part when Jacob force ably kisses Bella who then punches him in retaliating ending in a broken hand and then her dad just laughs at her always bugged me. It is wrong on so many levels and even ignorant 11 year old me felt uncomfortable reading that. I also felt like I should talk more about the lack of plot in book 2 and 3 because there really wasn’t any. Book 2 was just Bella crying over Edward being gone and Edwards inner turmoil and book 3 was just Jacob and Edward fighting over Bella while she got really fed up.
I will always like twilight, but those things I have just mention it do taint my opinion on it a lot, which was why I thought this book was perfect for the prompt of a book you love and hate at the same time because I truly do feel that way about twilight. Do you like twilight? What book do you have a love hate relationship with? I’d love to know, so leave a comment down below or come and chat with me on my Instagram! (@theoriginalbookdragon)
Goodbye for now!
