Hello Everyone!
Today is November the 1st, which means it is Day 1 of the 30-day book challenge I am doing and the first prompt is ‘the best book you read last year’. As the prompt suggests, I am going to be talking a little bit about my favourite book I read last year. I am going to do a mini review, tell you some of my favourite quotes and tell you why it was my favourite book of 2017.
I thought long and hard about which book I should go with, because I did read a lot of amazing books last year and I didn’t want to go with the obvious answer; however, I would be lying if I didn’t choose this book, so my answer is ‘Clockwork Princess’ by Cassandra Clare. I think you’re all aware by now that I adore Cassandra Clare’s writing and The Infernal Devices trilogy was no exception. In fact I would even go so far as to say they are my favourite Cassandra Clare books. I love the whole trilogy, but Clockwork Princess is my favourite and here is why…
I read these books at a really difficult time in my life, but I read Clockwork Princess on a particularly difficult day. I was in school, but I decided not to go to any of my classes because I was too anxious and just didn’t feel up to pretending everything was okay, so I made my excuses and sat in a place we call ‘the hub’, which is a little room for students who aren’t in class for whatever reason and I read all day long. I was supposed to be doing work that the teachers had sent up to me, but I just put it in my bag to do later because I didn’t feel up to it and simply wanted to read and that is exactly what I did.
I didn’t put the book down all day and only stopped reading briefly to get my lunch out of my bag, so that I could eat while I read. I was reading it in e-book format on my i-pad though and I (stupidly) didn’t bring a portable charger with me, so 10 minutes before the final bell rang, my i-pad died…..when I only had 10 pages left. It was incredibly annoying because I would have been able to finish the book perfectly on time, but instead I had to run home, wait 20 minutes for my i-pad to charge enough to turn back on and then finish the epilogue. If any of you have read Clockwork Princess, then you know how important and heartbreaking the epilogue to that book is, so having to wait almost an hour to finish it was torture!
If I told you all the other things I love about this book and the whole trilogy, then we would be here forever, but the short version of it is: everything. There isn’t a single thing I don’t adore about The Infernal Devices series and I will forever love them. I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about my reading experience with Clockwork Princess and the first day of this 30-day book challenge. They’ll be another post at the same time tomorrow, so check back in at 5pm GMT to find out what book I have read more than 3 times!
What was your favourite book of 2017? I’d love to know!
Goodbye for now!
