Hello Everyone!
Today I am going to be telling you about some of my ‘auto-buy authors’! If anyone doesn’t know what an auto-by author is I will explain briefly for you: an auto-by author is an author that you love, so you buy all of their books pretty much without hesitation because it is clearly going to be fabulous. I have 10 authors here that I adore and I would absulotely buy every book they have ever written and some of them I have actually done just that, so without further ado let’s just get into it because I can’t wait to gush about all of my favourite authors.
Cassandra Clare
Anyone who knows me really should have expected Cassandra Clare to be at the top of this list. I first read ‘The Mortal Instruments’ when I was 11 and I fell in love. I am a Shadowhunters super fan and that will never change. I have read a lot of her books, but I can’t claim to have read all of them because she just has so many. I have yet to read ‘The Dark Artifices’ because I prefer to marathon series, so I am waiting for the release of the final book this Christmas before I dive into those. I also haven’t read her most recent novellas because I am waiting for them all to come out before I start them. I haven’t read any of her co-authored novels either, but I am hoping too in the coming months.
Rick Riordan
I am a huge Rick Riordan fan and I always have been. My mum read the original Percy Jackson books to me and my sister when we were younger and we then read the Heroes of Olympus series as it came out. I will never forgive him for that cliff-hanger he left us on at the end of Mark of Athena! I have officially read every single one of his books and I am still hanging on his every word to this day as he continues to release books.
Holly Bourne
My best friend, who is also a reader, introducd me to Holly Bourne by making me read ‘Am I Normal Yet?’ about 3 years ago and I immediately fell in love. Holly Bourne is such an honest writer and she doesn’t sugar coat anything, which I love. All of her books that I have read are about breaking down barriers and different kinds of stereotypes and stigmas from anything to mental health, feminism, body image, representation and so much more. I have read 4 of her books so far, but I am hoping to get the rest of her books for my birthday or for Christmas.
Leigh Bardugo
If you have been following my blog for the last few months then you will know that I recently discovered Leigh Bardugo. I have been hearing about her and how fabulous she is online for years, but I never got around to reading her books, but then I did finally pick up ‘The Grisha Trilogy’ and I fell in love. Leigh Bardugo is one of the most amazing authors ever and she has shot straight to the top of my list of favourite authors of all time. I will read literally anything and everything she rights. I will kill just to read her shopping list I love her that much.
Rainbow Rowell
I like most people, found Rainbow Rowell by reading Fangirl when it first came out. I adore that book because I can relate to it on such a personal level and I have read it 3 times. I then devoured Carry On when it came out and went on to read Eleanor & Park as well. I haven’t caught up with her other books at the moment, but I know I will buy any new books that she writes as soon as they come out and I will hopefully get caught up with her previous titles soon enough.
Becky Albertalli
I read ‘Simon vs the Homosapien’s Agenda’ in May in preparation for the movie to come out and fell absolutely head of heels in love with it. Becky Albertalli’s story telling skills are amazing and just everything about the Simonverse is amazing fullstop. I read Leah on the Offbeat the second it came out and fell in love with that too. I am planning to buy ‘The Upside of Unrequited’ soon and read that too as well as the new novel that she co-wrote with Adam Silvera.
Amanda Lovelace
I’m sure most of you have heard of Amanda Lovelace by now because she is the author of the very popular: ‘the princess saves herself in this one’ poetry collection. I love Amanda Lovelace’s poetry and I simply can’t get enough of it. Her writing is lyrical and beautiful whilst also making a point and it really sparks something inside me. Her writing has very feminist themes and I love that.
Melissa Grey
I wouldn’t be surprised if you said you hadn’t heard of Melissa Grey because she isn’t nearly as popular or well-known as I think she deserves to be. She is the author of ‘the girl at midnight’ trilogy, which I have been following since the release of the first book 3 years ago. I bought the book on release day because I thought it sounded really good and read the whole thing in one sitting because it was so amazing. I then realised that I would have to wait a whole year for the second book and had an existential crisis. I have been hanging on her every word of years now and I am so amazed with where the trilogy has gone and how much her writing has improved. The world she has created is so magical and beautiful and I highly suggest you give her books a read.
Josephine Angelini
Some of you may have heard of Josephine Angelini because she has written quite a lot of books at this point, but they aren’t Cassandra Clare kind of popular, so I also wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t know her. I read her Starcrossed trilogy about 2 years ago and I loved it. It is based around Greek Mythology, which is what drew me in originally because my inner Percy Jackson nerd will read anything based around Mythology, but what really set these books apart for me was the dark twist she put on the Mythology. She took the original stories and twisted them and made them into what she wanted to and built her story from there and I loved it. She has written any other books, which I haven’t gotten around to reading yet, but I am 100% planning to in the future.
Sally Green
Sally Green wrote the Half Bad trilogy, which I also read from the release of the first book. I loved this trilogy because it is quite different from anything I have ever read before. There are some parts of the story that you can see have been influenced by other books and common tropes, but she has added so much else to the world and the law that you can’t tell. She has recently released the first book in another series ‘The Smoke Thieves’ and I went along on release day and bought it without even knowing what it is about because I know it will be amazing regardless.
Those are by top 10 auto-by authors! I hope you enjoyed seeing me gush about my favourite authors and I hope that I have maybe introduced you to some new authors that you wouldn’t have known about otherwise. What are some of your auto-buy authors. Do we have any of the same authors? I’d love to know!
Goodbye for now!

[…] I would tell you that I tried my hardest to narrow my long list down to just one author to talk about, but that would be lying. I just couldn’t even think about not including some authors, so I am going to talk briefly about 2 that I would call my ‘favourites’ and then I am going to do a mini list of some other authors that I love. I have a blog post all about my favourite auto-buy authors, so you can go and check that you for more details: https://www.samanthadrage.co.uk/2018/09/21/auto-buy-authors/ […]
