Hello Everyone!
If you have been keeping up with me in Instagram or Twitter then you will know that I have been away for a while. I have been a little stodgy with the posts lately because of that. Unfortunately I had no wifi at the place I was staying, which made it impossible for me to upload for you, but I back now and I have an exciting post for you all. I have only done one of these types of posts before, but I enjoy writing them and I think it is a good way to document my travels for you all.
For those of you that don’t know where I went I will inform you that it was Germany. Every year my school run a music tour and as a music lover and a music student I got a place on this trip. The primary purpose of the trip is of course to preform, but we do loads of other exciting things in between. I am sure you all just want to know what they are though, so I will stop rambling and get onto the details:
16/7/17 – This was a travelling day, but they are exciting none the less. We had to take the coach down to Dover, which was about a 3-4 hour drive, to then get on a ferry. They had Starbucks on the ferry, which fulfilled my needs. The drive after that was a long one totally at about 8-9 hours, but I survived and got a lot of reading done while I was at it (There is a book review coming soon, so keep and eye out for that). Once we arrived ion Germany we did the usual thing of exploring the local area. I got some amazing photos because Germany is an amazing country. It is all hills and trees and I felt like I was in a book half the time. It just didn’t feel real.
17/7/17 – This was our fist full day in Germany and the first things we did was go and explore the ruins of Rheinfels Castle in St Goar. It was a long walk up all of the stairs and a very steep hill, but the ruins were fun to look around and the view from the top was incredible. We then hiked back down the hill that we had been made to climb and took a cruise down the river Rhine. It was very relaxing and it allowed me to take in the scenery around me, which as previously mentioned is marvellous. We then headed on to the venue that we were going to do our concert at. It took a while to set up, but once we had we drew in a big crowd and got a lot of positive feedback at the end. We all had a lot of fun performing as well, so it was a win-win really.
18/7/17 – Our second day in Germany started with a trip to the Volcano park where we got to see the chambers below the earth where lava used to be and learnt a lot about the fairly local dormant volcano. When you go somewhere new you always have to go shopping, which is exactly what we spent our afternoon doing. We went to Koblenz to do it and performed an impromptu concert as well. I have been on the continent several times now and you usually find that a lot of shops have pianos outside the front of their shops. They allow anyone to play them and so of course when you take a bunch of music students anywhere we tend to gravitate towards these places. We performed several pieces and everyone seemed to love it. This is one of my favourite things about music tour. Our concert for today was in the evening again and it went just fine.
19/7/17 – Wednesday was our final full day in Germany, so we decided to spend the morning visiting another castle. We went to Cochem castle, which we all joked looked a little like a smaller version of Hogwarts. My friend even wore her Gryffindor t-shirt! To get to the castle though we had to climb yet another hill, but the views from the top were truly spectacular. Our Concert was mid-afternoon this time, so we had to combat with the 31 degree heat, which was lovely, but not great for the equipment. We made it work though and put on another memorable show. Our evening activity for today was mini-golf and I won! We also got free ice-cream, which was an added bonus – somehow everything tastes better when it is free.
20/7/17 – We headed home on the Thursday. I was sad to leave Germany and it’s stunning views behind, but also glad to be going home because I was officially exhausted.
That is my log of my time spent in Germany. If you couldn’t tell from what I said there I can reassure you that I loved every part of trip away and I will 100% be going back one day. Germany is a gorgeous country and deserves so much more of my time. I want nothing more than to walk though all of those tree covered hills for hours and all of their fairy tale like villages. I think everyone should go to Germany at some point in their lives because it would truly be a shame to miss out on it’s beauty.
