Day 8 – Most Overrated Book

Hello Everyone!

It is Day 8 of the 30-day book challenge, which means we are officially into the second week! Today we are going to be talking about the book I think is the most overrated. This was a really hard prompt for me to think of a book for because I generally don’t read many books that I have given a low rating. I consider myself to be very good at picking out books that I’ll enjoy because I know what  do and don’t like to read. This is a great thing because I’m not wasting time and money on books I don’t like, but it also means that questions like this are very difficult.

I have read some books I don’t like, but those books aren’t very well known at all, so I can’t say that they are overrated. I therefore could only think of one popular book that I have read that I didn’t really like and that book is ‘The Hazel Wood’ by Melissa Albert. I know a lot of people loved this book, but I just didn’t I didn’t hate it, but I think I only gave it about 3 stars, which is a pretty bad rating for me as I rate a lot of my books quite highly.

I am not a fan of scary or creepy things at all and I struggled to read this book because it would set me on edge, but the fact that I’m a bit of a chicken aside I just didn’t think it was that great. I liked the fairy tale aspects of it and I thought the idea was great, but I don’t think it was executed all that well. I predicted the ending in the first few chapters and I couldn’t stand the main character. I found her annoying and quite frankly rather stupid. I spent most of my time reading being annoyed with her because she did things that she obviously shouldn’t do and missed so many red flags that I just couldn’t understand how someone could be so stupid.

This post has been quite negative, so I wanted to finish it off on a positive note. I didn’t hate every aspect of this book, but I did hate some of the bigger things, which meant that the negatives outweighed the positives for me. The Hazel Wood isn’t a bad book, but it just wasn’t my favourite and I don’t really understand the hype around it. Have you read the Hazel Wood? What did you think of it?
