Hello Everyone!
Welcome to day 6 of the 30-day book challenge. Today we are going to be talking about a book that makes me sad and the book I have chosen might surprise some of you. That book is ‘The Hate U Give’ by Angie Thomas. I know a lot of people are probably confused by my choice, but let me explain…
I did really enjoy my time reading THUG and I learnt so much about racism in america and the problems that black people face that I personally, as a blonde, white, British girl, don’t have to face. It does however, make me very sad and that is because, I shouldn’t have to learn about these things in the present tense. I don’t want to live in a word that discriminates against people over something as trivial as the colour of their skin or anything else for that matter because we are all human beings and that should be enough to deserve respect and equal rights, but the fact of the matter is that we do live in a world that discriminates against a whole hell of a lot of people for a whole host of reasons and that makes me incredibly upset and angry.
This book really brought to light a lot of issues I didn’t even know existed and helped me understand those that I did, but it was a difficult book to read when I know that there are people in this world who have to deal with the things I am reading about. know people personally who have to deal with this sort of thing and that isn’t okay.
I am going to leave this post here because I can feel myself getting upset and this is a very heavy topic, but I hope you enjoyed reading non-the-less. What book makes you sad an why? Tell me in the comments and we can have a discussion!
Goodbye for now!
